I recently created a small routine of Korean Skin Care Products for dry skin after traveling to New York for work in January. I found myself exposed to not only the dry airplane cabin, traveling during odd hours and exhaustion but to the 11 degree weather.I was already having skin issues at this point. SO, yeah, my skin was freaking out. Anyway, after getting back from NY, Florida started to cool down too and then I started experiencing really dry, flaky, dull skin. I honestly just started thinking about getting some sort of expensive peel or other skin treatment done at a dermatologist’s office. But, before I dropped a ton of cash on that, I turned to some amazing skin care products that worked!

In my search for products for dry skin, I found that a lot of the best results came with the incorporation of collagen, which is why I chose these. COLLAGEN WORKS.

Most of these skin care products are  Korean, one is Japanese, and one is simple Neosporin lip care. I usually try got stick to Korean/Japanese products for most facial care in general, so that’s what I have experience with and what worked for me. I noticed an initial difference immediately of course, but of over the next few days it was really obvious. The switch to a moisturizing  Japanese facial wash was key, as was incorporating Korean skin care products that had collagen.

How does collagen in Korean skin care products work?

Korean skin care products for dry skin are often enriched with collagen. Collagen promotes elasticity, firmness, healing and are the key ingredient in a large number of sheet masks. Collagen will improve the look and feel of your skin almost immediately–one use of a good quality collagen sheet mask will definitely make your skin have a more supple appearance. A lot of these collagen enriched products are coupled with essential moisturizers to penetrate your skin.

For example, here’s the description for Etude House’s Moistfull Collagen Facial Toner:

The small particles of the super collagen water and Baobab water in the Moistfull Collagen Facial Toner, endlessly provide moisture and leave your skin feeling very hydrated. Like jelly, the water droplets are soft to the skin yet firm in absorption. It gives the skin a bouncy jelly feel.

So, by upping the collagen and the use of moisturizers in my usual skin care routine, I saw major improvements in a week. Let’s get to the products:

For a moisturizing face wash that is also gentle, I looked up what Japan had to offer and I was not disappointed. $10 – Amazon

3. Etude House Moistfull Collagen Toner

  2. Im 12 yo and my skin is very dry if i dont use one sheet mask per day. Around the nose area was the driest part, also the nose bridge. sometimes i think collagen is too much for my skin, bc im still a teen but after seeing this im still thinking to buy the collagen based products that are mentioned in here. Is collagen too much for my skin or like too much formulated (?)

    1. Hi, Minyooyoongi! Thank you for your question!

I don’t think collagen alone will help in your case. You can definitely try it, but we need to treat the issue that is causing the dryness first. You wrote that all your skin is very dry and it could be because you have dry skin OR because your skin is dehydrated too.

Let’s find out if you have dry or dehydrated skin first! Go here and take the skin test. Then read to see what your overall skin type is.

Dry skin has flaking skin, red areas, irritation, your skin looks textured.

Dehydrated skin has sudden extreme dryness, can’t absorb skin products, causes sensitive skin, gives you more acne breakouts, eczema, redness, or contact dermatitis, and flaky patches around the nose, eyes, and tops of cheeks. That sounds a little more like what could be happening from your comment.

Dehydrated skin can be caused by exfoliating too much or using the wrong cleansers, cleansing too much, sunburn, medical issues… it can be a lot of reasons. But you can also have dry skin AND dehydrated skin.

I have suggestions for products and ingredients to look for below. You don’t have to buy all of them! But the ones I think you should buy are the low pH cleanser and toner. That will help so much, even if you don’t do the rest. And also use very deeply moisturizing products.

Be sure to patch test any new products or any new ingredient!! That will help you avoid a reaction.

For both dry and dehydrated skin, switch to a low pH toner and cleanser:

COSRX Low pH Good Morning Gel Cleanser – $9.49 on Amazon.

COSRX Centella Water Alcohol-free Toner $14 on Amazon

      Dry Skin:
Add in vitamin C – this is a cool cheap powder you can add to any beauty product (like a serum): Mizon Vitamin C Powder $9 on Amazon.

Add in an emulsion, and also look for products that say aqua, bomb (like moisture or water bomb), nutrition, rejuvenate, rich, moisture.

      Dehydrated skin:
You need to look for very hydrating products. Also look for sensitive skin products.

Look for these ingredients in the rest of your routine:

Aloe vera, ceramides, cocoa butter, donkey milk, goat milk, honey, mango seed butter, animal based facial cream/oils like argan or olive oil based products.
Add a face oil and a moisturizing cream. Look for key words like “moisture barrier”.

      Hope this helps! xx
